Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı presented report cards to students at a ceremony to mark the end of the 2014-1025 school year.

Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı distributed report cards and Daisy “book reading, listening and voice recording sets” to students at the Mitat Enç School for Children with Visual Disabilities at a ceremony that marked the end of the 2014-2015 school year in Turkey. 

Minister Avcı said the days when report cards are distributed are the best days for students and wished success and luck to the children.

Minister Avcı wished the students, their parents and their teachers a happy holiday and went on to say “when you ask the children they will probably say they will work hard during the holiday that is not what we tell them. We advise them to relax rest and have fun, then they will be much better prepared for the next school year. I wish all our children, all our students a happy and healthy future. I deeply thank our teachers for their efforts throughout the year. I also thank each and every person who contributed to the efforts of the Ministry of National Education, the ministry staff and our educational executives for their contributions to complete the educational year successfully in a healthy manner.”

Asked if he will have any advice to the families of students with poor report cards Minister Avcıu responded “of course you know we have a classical warning like do not hurt your children because of their report cards. Yes I will repeat that once again. Yes, parents should not make too much fuss over the report cards. If there are some report cards with problems the students will make amends next year.”

 

“Reading material are given with the de Braille alphabet”

After his statements Minister Avcı distributed the report cards to the students written in Braille alphabet. Minister Avcı read out some of the report cards and congratulated the children who helped him read the Braille alphabet.

Minister Avcı said the reading material provided to the students is written in Braille alphabet. He said a major portion of the reading material used at schools for those with visual impairment have been converted into the Braille alphabet and the remaining are also being converted.

A student named Mehmet Emin presented Minister Avcı with a Picture that included the Turkish flag he and his friends had made from crepe paper. Minister Avcı read out the names of the children and thanked them.

Minister Avcı introduced the Daisy book reading, book listening and voice recording material for the visually impaired children and their teachers and went on to say “you will now be able to listen to all the lessons, you will be able to record voices and listen to music. You deserve such nice presents for such wonderful report cards. You can now learn how to operate this equipment and you can listen to music throughout the holidays. These are very easy equipment to use. May you make the best of it.”

 

“We know well the sacrifices of the parents”

Minister Avcı later addressed the parents and thanked the families, mothers and fathers for their efforts to raise these children. 

Minister Avcı said he wishes the parents to see their children be happy and healthy and successful “we are well aware that children who are educated especially in this school need more attention and care. We know very well how especially the mothers made an extra effort to care for these children. We as the ministry, the school administrators and as teachers are making every effort to compliment your efforts. May their path be bright. I hope you will give their university diplomas with the will of Allah.”

Minister Avcı said the teachers will also benefit from the equipment distributed here and added “the equipment we are distributing here today is not only for education but are multifunctional. You can also listen to music. You too can record voices. Who knows what new functions you can all create out of these equipment.”

 

Regulations on appointments of school administrators

Asked by a journalist after the ceremony about the Supreme Court (Council of State) ruling to halt the application of the regulations for the appointment of school administrators and how this will affect the education system Minister Avcı said “we have sent directives to all provinces regarding the issue. We wrote official directives to the provinces on what should be done. Besides this the legal department of our ministry is working on how our personnel will be affected by this decision and what legal options we have. We will make a detailed announcement after the necessary legal studies are completed.”

After the distribution of the report cards Minister Avcı talked with the students and their parents. He also gave his signatures to students.
